St Botolph's Electoral Roll

During March and April, we shall be revising and updating the Church Electoral Roll.

The church’s Electoral Roll is the register of its voting members; it is a list of those qualified to attend and to vote at the Annual Parochial Church Meeting. Electoral Rolls provide an indication of the membership and strength of the church.

If you are a regular member of St Botolph's and would like to be added to the Electoral Roll, please read the information below and complete the electronic form at the end.

Why join the Electoral Roll?

  • You are saying, “I belong.” An act of commitment to your local church.

  • You can vote on church matters, attend the Annual Parochial Church Meeting (APCM) and even stand for election to the Parochial Church Council (PCC) and Deanery Synod.

  • The number on the Electoral Roll directly impacts the representation on governing bodies like the PCC, Kettering Deanery Synod, Peterborough Diocesan Synod, and General Synod.

  • It opens doors for greater involvement beyond the parish level. You can participate in decision-making at the Deanery, Diocesan, and national levels.

  • If you wish to stand for election to the PCC or other synodical councils, or if you want to attend the APCM and vote, joining the Roll is compulsory.

It’s a voluntary choice that strengthens our church community and allows you actively to contribute to our life and governance.

What does the Electoral Roll affect?

  • The maximum number of lay members on the PCC is determined by the electoral. If the Roll is not representative this means that the PCC is too small to be most effective.

  • Representation on the governing bodies of the Church (PCC, Kettering Deanery Synod, Peterborough Diocesan Synod and General Synod).

Do I qualify for the Roll?

To apply for the Electoral Roll, you must meet ALL the following conditions:

  • You must be aged 16 or over.

  • You must be baptised.

  • You must be a member of the Church of England and either live in the parish or have attended a church in the parish regularly for at least 6 months.

You may be on the Electoral Roll of more than one Church, but you can only serve on the PCC of one Church at a time.

I’m convinced – how do I join?

Simply complete the electronic application form below.
Alternatively application forms are available from the church office, or the church building.

I can’t remember if I have joined already?

A full printout of the current Roll (names only) is displayed in the servery area of the church building or in the Church Office.
